  • Visual Designs
Client

British multinational manufacturer of equipment for construction, agriculture, waste handling, and demolition.

Deliverables
  • Wireframes
  • Hi-Fidelity Visual Designs
  • Interactive Prototype

Design a platform for Test Engineers and Operators which automates the endurance testing process and takes advantage of the advanced digital features to capture the test observations & generate reports.

Field Research & User Interviews

Field Research

In this study we try to observe and analyze users in the context of using the product in their own environment – or a substitute process which we want to change.

User Interviews

As a part of UX Research, our team has conducted user interviews of the Test Engineers and Machine Operators. Our team has gone and met each individual to conduct a casual interview.

Problem Areas - Research Insights

Manual Process

Forms/Sheets are manually designed by test engineers in excel, Operators write down his observations on the printed forms/sheets.

Communication Overhead

Communication between user groups is person dependent, which increases the percentage of human errors.

No Digitization

Human efforts are required to digitize the data & this may lead to wrong data entry.

No Centralization

Generated data is not centralized, Raw data from driversheets are saved as physical papers.

No Tracking

Generating reports & tracking history is difficult & time-consuming.

User Persona

Through user interviews, the team has found that the users can be classified into:

Machine Operator

Operates various machines for testing,
fills daily reports, reports concerns faults to engineer.

Test Engineer

Owns test machine/component,
Configure testing and generates reports.

Test Engineer

"Collect all the documents everyday after shifts.. Read in those handwriting... Burns more
energy than generating reports..."

Needs

  • Smart work culture with less field task
  • A proper solution to get a notification when a new project arrives.
  • An e-data sheet which he can use to generate a report
  • A solution that reduces the task of verifying machines at field by providing visual data.

Frustration

  • The hardcopy data sheet may get misplaced
  • On spot data sheet filling gives better results and collects more valuable information and issues.
  • Sometimes becomes difficult to understand what the operator wrote.
  • No visual data, hence more time is spent on field checking of machines.
  • No proper new project alert method.

Need

  • Stable and secure job
  • Communication in native languages.
  • Proper solution to record details then and there
  • A solution to record the issue with any machine visually
  • Reduces the task of writing data-sheet regularly at the end of the shift
  • Solution that is smart enough to create a flag notification for any up coming task.

Frustration

  • The hardcopy data sheet cannot be carried to the field, hence he has to maintain dairy then datasheet.
  • Onspot data sheet filling not available
  • Not proper field space in the hardcopy datasheet to write the details accurately
  • No method to keep visual data of the issue they faced with the machine.
